Background
Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe / Diakonie Emergency Aid is a German non-governmental organisation providing worldwide humanitarian aid. Diakonie has been working in Pakistan since the earthquake in 2005. Having implemented relief, recovery and rehabilitation operations in Kashmir (AJK) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe has also provided emergency relief operations in KPK and Punjab after the devastating floods in Pakistan. For our flood early recovery programme we are now seeking a Civil Engineer.
Duration of assignment: 1st April 2011 to 30th June 2011 (with possible extension)

Job Description
- Support the Program Manager Construction in the activities related to the department day to day
- Work in close collaboration with other team members and supervise AUTOCAD documents.
- To assess the needs for housing and infrastructures rehabilitation and construction in the different zones affected by the floods.
- To analyze the results of former and/or current housing projects implemented in the zone of intervention.
- To develop design and construction criteria for housing and infrastructure projects identified in the framework of the partner managed programs as well as the DKH own programs.
- To produce individual elaborates (construction drawings and bills of quantity) for housing and infrastructure found in a repairable condition
- To participate in the elaboration of terms of reference and/or a technical document that will be annexed to a further call for proposals for construction projects.
- To design and deliver adopted earthquake and flood resistant construction technology training workshops in the setting areas. Following the training of trainers concept.
- To develop methodological proposals for the monitoring and evaluation of the housing activities according to the different modes of construction adopted.
- To carry out the monitoring and evaluation of construction activities.
- To provide advice and support to implementing partner and DKH construction projects
- To participate in the Sector Work Group (SWG) coordination meetings for rehabilitation and reconstruction as often as time allows.
- To produce reports as well as any additional required documentation.
- To carry out any other activities required by the line manager or the Head of Mission.
Qualification/skill/experience requirements
· Engineer or Architect Degree
· Min 5 years experience
· Perfect oral and written English
· Desirable from KPK, Multan or Islamabad
· Ready to work very high percentage of time in the field
· Respectful for gender issues
